The Advent Waiting Is Over

Are you still waiting?

Advent was about waiting, about preparing ourselves.

I sat on a pier the day after Christmas and watched some surfers waiting to catch some waves. It seemed odd to me to be spending December 26th waiting. There they sat resting on their boards, their feet dangling in the water, some seemed to be snoozing as they waited.

Beneath the surface was an eco system brimming with life. On the shore the seagulls scampered and pecked at the seaweed. The beach goers took in the winter sun, skaters whizzed by on the boardwalk and tourist lounged in seaside bars. Life was teaming with excitement.

But the surfers just sat there waiting. Didn’t they know the waiting was over, our Savior had arrived. He brought us new life. But there they are, still waiting.

The ocean rose, the tiny waves crested and quickly fell. The surfers labored to catch a moment on a wave that wasn’t coming.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastecs 3:1) The time for waiting is over.

Merry Christmas and may God bless you in the coming year.
