I took these pictures on Good Friday, 2013, just weeks before I left on my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. That was the first Easter my husband and I spent away from our home parish. We have just made reservations for this Easter and I can’t wait to share with you where, but I’m going to (wait that is). Secrets are so exciting!
When I visited the Mission in Carmel I had just started this blog and did not really know where this was going so I didn’t take very many.
The Carmel Mission is located just outside the town and is the burial place of the missions founder, Fr. Junipero Serra. An elaborate empty tomb (which I’m positive I took a picture of but can’t seem to find)built in honor of the Missionary Priest is located just inside the museum and you can visit his cell where he died. His remains are buried in the Basilica. You can find more pictures and information about the Carmel Mission on their website.
On a side note I found this.
A Pilgrim Credential for the California Missions made by Martha Lopez, my Camino de Santiago Hospitaleros trainer (I’ll tell you more about that soon.). They are sold at the Mission San Diego de Alcalá and at the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc, California.
Happy Monday.
